Designed to help anyone who loves and works with or lives with boys, All About Boys will explore the mental, physical, psychological and spiritual lives of the young men in our care. In this episode, veteran counselor David Thomas talks about the importance of helping boys figure out what they feel (and what to do with those feelings). He talks about the dangers of what can happen when boys don’t develop what he calls, “emotional muscles.” He defines four emotional Milestones and how to help boys develop them: 1. Vocabulary 2. Perspective 3. Empathy 4. Resourcefulness He shares ideas on creating space for boys to channel the physicality of their emotion, and how easily we can end up in emotional tug of war with boys who struggle to regulate.
